Michigan International Jamboree 2008

Chief Okemos Council hosted their 4th Troop 241 Patch (www.micamporee.org) Michigan International Camporee at Northwoods Scout Reservation from July 27-August 3, 2008.  The event was attended by about 800 Scouts and Scouters from 19 different countries from around the globe.

Participation in the event by Scouts from states outside of Michigan is through an application and selection process.  Troop 241 was selected to send a contingent of 8 youth and 2 adults to represent California.

Troop 241 joined Scouts from Isle of Man and Costa Rica in Iroquois campsite.  Troop 63 of Williamston was our hosting troop from Michigan.  They provided tents and other camp gear and made us feel quite welcome.

The Scouts participated in several activities throughout the week.  They made Native American crafts, went river rafting, played initiative games, shot paint ball guns, and traded patches.  Each Scout also participated in a camp-wide service project.  There were also several shows though out the week including a Native American Pow Wow and a performance by the Kwahadi dancers.  The highlight of the entire event was the international festival.  All of the visiting troops had a booth at the central parade ground where they had a chance to display foods, dances and other information from their home countries.
